What this price means for your bill

At $2.56 per gallon, a 300-gallon fill (80% of a 500-gallon tank from a quarter full) costs about $768. Burned in a propane furnace or boiler running at 90% efficiency, that is $31.09 per million BTU of heat delivered into the house, which is the number to use when comparing against anything else.

The price is within about 10% of its five-year average, which is as close to normal as propane gets. Topping off on your usual schedule is reasonable; there's no strong signal either way. Compared with the same week last year it is 15% higher. We don't forecast prices. What we can tell you is where this week sits against history, and how the fuel compares with the alternatives at today's numbers.
